Charlie Puth released a short film today for his new single, "That's Not How This Works," which drops on March 31st and features Dan + Shay. Puth first teased the new song on TikTok back in January and shows how he came up with the beat and everything.
Below is a quick timeline of his TikTok journey where Puth takes his fans on a behind the scenes look at how he created "That's Not How This Works."
Fast forward to this month, Puth posted on his Twitter that there will be a short film for "That's Not How This Works" before the actual music video is released.
The short film was then released today and it features the lovely Sabrina Carpenter. Another quick interesting thing Puth posted on his TikTok was a video with the caption: "That's Not How This Works feat Dan + Shay 3.31. Sabrina Version 4.14." Which seems to me that maybe we are going to get a new Sabrina Carpenter song that'll feature her side of the story from this song? Not sure but that's my prediction haha
Puth posted the short film on his TikTok and said that:
"To date I've made 34 music videos, and they rarely feel like they say the whole truth about a song. There's always more to say, and it's usually just outside the music. It's more in the moments, and that's how my brain has always processed things - finally, I was able to make something to recreate truly what this song means to me. I cannot wait for you to hear it. But first, you have to watch the movie - I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. Thank you endlessly to Sabrina Carpenter, for your trust and immense talent - you carried us. Thank you to Phillip R. Lopez & Matthew Daniel Siskin and the entire film crew for bringing this to life. 'That's Not How This Works' (feat. Dan + Shay) drops tomorrow at 9pm PT."
The short film he provided for the song gives you a glimpse into the life of the relationship two people who are in love but experience a rocky yet beautiful relationship all at once. At the beginning of the short film, there's a quote that says, "Everyone's memory is their own private literature" by Aldous Huxley. During the film, you see Puth listen back via cassette tapes as he looks back at all the good and bad memories he had with Carpenter. Based off this short film I cannot wait to listen to the new song and you can check out the short film for "That's Not How This Works" below.
