Katherine Heigl Reacts to Alex & Izzie's 'Grey's Anatomy' Reunion

After 16 seasons and 15 years playing Alex Karev on Grey's Anatomy, Justin Chambers shocked fans when he announced he'd be leaving the long-running medical drama last January. Chambers' departure was abrupt, as well, with his character revealing that he had reunited with his ex-wife, Izzie Stevens, off-screen in a series of letters sent to his friends, wife and co-workers at Grey Sloan Memorial.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Katherine Heigl—who portrayed Izzie Stevens for six seasons—shared her candid thoughts on Izzie and Alex's reunion. Heigl admitted she "didn't see" the episode and had to confirm with ET that Alex was "with someone" when he decided to move to Kansas for Izzie. "Listen, isn't that an a**hole move?" Heigl said of Alex's decision.

Grey's Anatomy is currently in its 17th season. This season has seen two former cast members—Patrick Dempsey and TR Knight—reprise their roles as Meredith Grey battles COVID-19. Showrunner Krista Vernoff has teased that even more special appearances are line up for the second half of the season. As of now, Heigl isn't lined up to return. "I'm super focused on [Firefly Lane] and my passion for it," Heigl explained. "I would never say never but it's not likely."

On Monday (January 25), ABC announced Grey's Anatomy's return from its mid-season hiatus has been delayed. The 17th season of the medical drama was originally slated to return March 4, however, it's now slated to be back on the air by Thursday, March 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
