Sam Smith Channels His 'Inner Dancing Queen' In 'How Do You Sleep?' Video

Sam Smith is back with his new single, "How Do You Sleep?", his first solo track of 2019, and it's a simmering ode to an unfaithful lover.

Alongside the track, which he worked on the track with Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and ILYA, the British crooner also shared a sleek video for the cut on Friday (July 19) and it brings Smith's dance talents to the forefront of the clip. Directed by Grant Singer (with choreography by Parris Goebel), the almost-four-minute visual is refined on all ends by its warm hues, all-male dance ensemble, robotic accessories and, of course, Smith in a care-free element. "How do you sleep when you lie to me?/ All that shame and all that danger/ I’m hoping that my love will keep you up tonight, baby," the 27-year-old sings on the mid-tempo track's hook.

"This year, both personally and musically, I feel so free. More than ever I have had so much fun making this record and this video. Time to dance darlings," he declared in a press release. Prior to its release, Smith admitted that he channeled his "inner dancing queen" for the clip and it's clear that dancing away his feelings was a good exercise for the star. "How Do You Sleep?" follows "Dancing with a Stranger," his slow-burning collaboration with Normani.
