HBO Didn't Submit 3 'GOT' Actors for Emmys—So They Got Themselves Nominated

Sometimes you gotta do things yourself.

When three Game of Thrones stars weren't nominated for Emmys by HBO, they took matters into their own hands by self-submitting themselves for a number of awards. And, guess what? They actually got nominated!

Alfie Allen (who played Theon), Gwendoline Christie (who played Ser Brienne of Tarth), and Carice Van Houten (who played Melisandre ) are a part of the HBO series' 32 record-breaking Emmy nominations for this year's award show... all thanks to themselves.

While TV studios traditionally submit actors and actresses for nominations, the three each paid a $225 entry fee for them to submit their own work after HBO chose to submit other stars. Alfie picked up a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, while Gwendoline snagged a Best Supporting Actress nom, and Carice got herself a Best Guest Actress nomination. (To note: there are no hard feelings between the actors and the network.)

SPOILERS AHEAD: Let's be real, Game of Thrones season 8 may not have been what we were all hoping for, to say the least, but the acting was never the problem. And if we really want to get specific, Alfie, Gwendoline and Carice's characters gifted us some of the most memorable (and least problematic) moments of the season.

Other Game of Thrones stars up for awards include Kit Harington for Outstanding Lead Actor, Emilia Clarke for Outstanding Lead Actress, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for Supporting Actor, and Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams for Supporting Actress.

The 2019 Emmy Awards airs on Sunday, September 22, at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
