17 Dead After Brawl in Venezuela Nightclub

The Interior Minister for Venezuela's government says 17 people were killed and five people injured Saturday after a brawl in a Caracas nightclub led to a stampede of more than 500 people. 

Eight minors were among those killed according to Interior Minister Nestor Reverol the AP reports

The fight began during a graduation celebration at "Los Cotorros" club in the middle-class neighborhood of El Pariso. Someone set off a tear gas device, triggering the stampede of more than 500 people. 

The motive for the brawl has not been released. 

"The establishment has been ordered closed, and we are investigating in coordination with the public ministry, which is directing the criminal investigation," Reverol said.

Seven people were arrested, including the owner of the club as well as the person who is believed to have set off the tear gas grenade. 

Nearby hospitals were treating the wounded, with one minor still in serious condition.
